We believe that financial support is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to nurturing students success, especially in Kilifi county.
Why Mentorship Matters:
1️⃣Mentorship plays a critical role in the effective growth and excellence of students. Beyond academic knowledge, students need guidance to navigate the complexities of their educational journey and personal development.
2️⃣ Research shows that mentorship can significantly impact a student’s academic performance and personal development. It provides a support system that helps students stay motivated, engaged, and focused on their goals.
Key aspects of our the ABAKI SHULE Mentorship program:
✓Holistic Development: Our mentorship program covers a wide range of topics, from academic support and career guidance to personal development and emotional resilience.
✓Skill Building: Our interactive workshops intend to help students develop critical skills such as effective communication and problem-solving.
✓Positive Role Models: We are striving to provide our students with positive role models through our network of individual partners to offer our students inspiration and encouragement.
While we are still in the early stages of this program, we want to AMPLIFY the critical role that mentorship will contribute to the success of the entire ABAKI SHULE school fee loans program. We are pursuing the mentorship program with EQUAL significance as our investment in the ABAKI SHULE school fee loans.

Creative Writing Session in Olivine Academy https://impertimus.org/creative-writing-session-in-olivine-academy/ Wed, 22 May 2024 09:01:38 +0000 https://impertimus.org/?p=8702
In 2022, we had the privilege of conducting our creative writing session in Olivine school in Mombasa. This come when the director of Olivine Academy, Dr. Oliver saw social media posts of African Storybook activities on our social media.
We had a meeting on how we can conduct the Creative Writing session in her school.
She had tried different apps to engage and encouraging the pupils and her staff to embrace reading and writing but was not successful.  We did a school assessment on what gadgets were available including computers, and tablets. At that time, they had 20 tablet and 1 digital tv which could not support either downloading the African Storybook apps or upload the downloaded African Storybooks pdf which we use for our writing sessions.  We did a pilot of creative writing session with one class of 14 pupils.

Early 2023, we did conduct the creative writing sessions for 95 pupils from grade 3 to grade 7. Currently each grade has 2 classes per week for African storybook activities.
To ensure continues use of African Storybook and support for students writing process, the teachers were trained on the 2 main African storybook tools (Reader and Maker applications) to the teachers for future use in classrooms.
The pupils have for far publish a number of stories using the maker app and currently writing more books under their writers’ club.

Partnership with Neema Foundation https://impertimus.org/partnership-with-neema-foundation/ Wed, 22 May 2024 08:23:58 +0000 https://impertimus.org/?p=8693
Neema Foundation is a faith-based organization was registered in 2020 to serve the community of Matane Mane with affordable health services, education and youth empowerment programs. One of its program is running reading clubs and literacy combined with feeding program in schools around the area. Neema Foundation is looking forward to opening its own Community library on its site.
Neema foundation was referred to me through the CEC for Education and ICT Ms Clara Chonga as we have similar interests and agenda literacy promotion in Kilifi county. Dr. Kamuche Kea-Sadik the founder of Neema foundation was interested to know how African storybook can come in to support and add the books in their upcoming library in Matano Manne, Ganze sub-county in Kilifi.

We shared what African storybook website and apps has done and how our activities have reached different schools in Kilifi County by uploading African storybook downloaded books in the school tablets.
Out of the meeting, we agree to support their reading activities by providing downloaded African storybook in the schools they have activities in. These are Misufini primary school,Ziwani primary school and Mwarandinda primary school located in Matano Manne.
On May 10th 2023,we had the opportunity to visit the organization site area and reached Misufini primary school where we launched a reading club. 766 African storybook and 120 book volumes of the same were uploaded onto 20 of the school tablets that are currently been used by the school and Junior Secondary school to improve their literacy levels. The reading club was formed with 150 children enrolled and are meeting every Friday since May 10th 2023.

We are planning for another date to reach the other two schools and  also looking to find a way of using African storybook to a deaf school in Kibarani in Kilifi. We are still at the consulting stage with an officer from social services in Kilifi.

Abaki Shule Loan Feature 4 https://impertimus.org/abaki-shule-loan-feature-4/ Wed, 15 May 2024 12:46:20 +0000 https://impertimus.org/?p=8790
4️⃣ Loan issued = 100% fees required in the term #ZeroBalance

We have achieved unique results by providing loans equal to the sum owed to schools by our beneficiaries in a term.

Here are the highlights of this offer to our beneficiaries:

* Immediate TOTAL relief #lipafeepolepolebilaSTRESS

* No “DOUBLE DEBT”. Parents or guardians do not worry anymore about obligations owed to school.

Once ABAKI SHULE loans reach schools, their obligation is to repay the advanced amount to Impertimus ONLY.

The opposite of this is seen in ‘quick loan solutions’ which leave parents struggling to repay loans issued by providers on one end and schools on the other in order to clear balances not covered by loans taken in the first place.

This is unfortunate for households whose income is limited, need constrained and have to face constant shift in priority of allocation.

The challenge of loans that are less than what schools require in a term can be summed up by this: “When the lender’s payments are due and schools demand unpaid balances, who does the parent prioritize?”

ABAKI SHULE STUDENT MENTORSHIP DAY https://impertimus.org/abaki-shule-student-mentorship-day/ Mon, 29 Apr 2024 08:48:33 +0000 https://impertimus.org/?p=8836

A lot of vigor, spirit and everything energetic! Our inaugural mentorship activity was both fun and informative. Well timed for our loan beneficiaries.

We conduct termly mentorship sessions for all the students who are recipient of ABAKI SHULE loans.

For our April 2024 mentorship session, we had 26 students from the Mavueni, Sokoni area in Kilifi north. Our core facilitator was Mutinda Mwende from Education Empowerment Initiative took our scholars through the following topics:

1). General education.

2) Sex education.

Coupled with real life to help stories students understand and grasp the reality of their lives.

Ms. Mwende emphasized on the 5 P’s that the students should consider in their academic Journey.

PROPER, PLANNING, PREVENT, POOR, PERFORMANCE.

She guided them on how to make a good timetable combined with a realistic goal setting for every subject. She emphasis having a group discussion with focus student and liken it to a human hand each finger represents a student who are bright on different subject if they come together, they can help each other and become strong.

On sex education, she pointed out that though teenagers portray boy-girl relationship to have some benefits most of the time they end up misleading each other and most of the times girls find themselves at a disadvantage if they get pregnant.

The students were guided on proper time management, Self-control and confidence in their daily life in order to excel. They were encouraged to focus on study and work smart for a bright future that they all are longing for because once time pass, they can’t undo what is done.

It was an insightful and impact-full session, and we hope there will be an improvement in their lives and academic this new term.

We look forward for the August mentorship session where we will include several speakers and interesting activities.

Abaki Shule Loan Features 3 https://impertimus.org/abaki-shule-loan-features-3/ Thu, 25 Apr 2024 12:31:16 +0000 https://impertimus.org/?p=8784

3️⃣ Pay school fees in manageable instalments #backtoschool

Through ABAKI SHULE, we have stomped out the myth of ‘non-bankable’ families and established that households have inconsistencies, fluctuations and delays in their incomes.
This puts them in difficult working positions with school administrators that demand fee payments in large sums that they are unable to raise when requested e.g at the beginning of a school term.

ABAKI SHULE pays 100% of school fees in a term upfront and requires parents to pay monthly installments on amounts advanced to schools on their behalf. Even when parents are unable to meet their monthly instalment, we are quick to restructure payments and adapt with income flow challenges that may have faced them.

This FLEXIBILITY guarantees continued relationship with our borrowers and resultant retention of students in school #zerodaysathome

Abaki Shule Loan Feature 2 https://impertimus.org/abaki-shule-loan-feature-2/ Sun, 24 Mar 2024 10:54:50 +0000 https://impertimus.org/?p=8758

2️⃣We are lending at 0% (Zero percent/interest free) #abakishuleloans
This is yet another critical if not the most impressive feature of the ABAKI SHULE INITIATIVE.
The cumulative cost of education(tuition fees, stationery, transport and others) is very high to most willing to pay parents and guardians. In addition to termly tuition fees required off their income, parents and guardians continuously contend with other basic household necessities to keep their homes running. Needless to say that any cost burden removed from these households is a saving that is quickly transferred to serve another basic need. This is why the ABAKI SHULE LOAN was envisaged to become the MOST affordable financing option, giving reprieve to the highly need constrained incomes of its beneficiaries.

We are able to offer the ABAKI SHULE LOAN as an interest free loan facility through a REVOLVING FUND supported locally by would be fundraisers who have shifted their support approach to this new model.
